From 1899 intern, Gynecological Department, Obukh Hospital. 1902 defended doctor’s thesis on changes of the hymen depending on age. 1906-1909 senior assistant, from 1909 associate professor, Obstetrical and Gynecological Clinic, Women's Medical Institute.
1911, in a paper delivered at the 4th Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, advocated contraceptives for women to ensure their right of controlled parenthood. 1912-1914 head, Gynecological Department, Saint St. Petersburg Hospital (now Lenin Hospital). 1914-1919 professor Obstetrical and Gynecological Clinic, from 1920 director, Psychoneurological Institute (now Institute of Health and Hygiene).
From 1922 also director and sci director, V.F. Snegirev Maternity Home. Board member, All-Union Institute of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. Chairman, Leningrad Obstetrical and Gynecological Social.
Member, Learned Medical Council, Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic People's Commissariat of Health. Edited various periodicals. Did major research on the function of the endocrine glands, internal diseases occuring during pregnancy, postparietal diseases and malignant tumors of the female genital organs.
Was an outstanding gynecological surgeon. Also worked in the field of labor welfare and mother-care. Wrote over 50 works.
