Career
Waters described Maelcum Soul as his first "star." Maelcum was famous for her outrageous styles in both her makeup and thrift store ensembles. She studied painting at the Maryland Institute College of Art and worked at the Fat Black Pussycat Cafe on Minetta Lane in New York City. She later worked as a barmaid at Martick"s (later Martick"s Restaurant Français) on Mulberry Street in Baltimore.
Maelcum died from uremic poisoning due to kidney failure in 1968.
She was 27 years old. She is buried in Bohemian National Cemetery in Baltimore.
