Appointed Assistant Magistrate (Indian Statutory Civil Service), 1877. Resigned, 1886, to manage his own extensive estates. Received title, Raja Bahadur, 29 May 1886.
Was exempted from attendance in Civil Courts, under Government Notification, 14 May 1888.
1888-1890, seat in Bengal Legislative Council as representative of Landowners of Bengal and Behar. Succeeded to The Guddee of Raj Durbhunga on decease of his brother, 1898.
Received title Maharaja Bahadur, 1898. Member Imperial Legislative Council five times, and sixtimes Presidentof British IndianAssociation.
President Bengal Landholders’ Association, and Life President Bharata Dliarma Mahamandal, by which he was elected to be the chief of the orthodox Hindus of India.
Made hereditary Maharaja Bahadur, 1907. Has restored and constructed temples destroyed by the earthquake of 1902 in Kamakhya, Assam, Sylhut, and other places. Has constructed the Rajnagar Palace at a cost of £160,000.
