Background
Mahmoud was born in Tataouine, in southeastern Tunisia, into a modest family. His father was a peasant and from whom he learned "you have to face" and also all the noble meanings: generosity, kindness, integrity and honesty. He defied all the hardships of his life until he had what he hoped for.

Career
He is a Tunisian anthropologist and the first to have defended a thesis in medical anthropology at the University of Tunis. His work focuses on the influence of the environment on health or what is known as environmental epigenetics. This area, which studies the potential effects of the environment on health, is part of an interdisciplinary approach.
He has taught at universities: the Higher Institute of Nursing of Tunis, Faculty of Mahmoud Matri of Tunis, the Higher Faculty of Health in Tunis, the School of Military Health of Tunis
