Background
Al-Rashid was born in East Pakistan (now Bangladesh). After he and his family immigrated to England, his father opened a restaurant.

Career
Al-Rashid has five sisters. Al-Rashid is a human rights barrister in London specialising in the areas of civil liberties and human rights. He has been involved in international and domestic terrorism and national security trials.
He is Chairman of the Islamic Society of Britain's Shura Council. He was advisor to the Master of Temple Church, which organises a series of discussions on Islam and English Law.
