Sub-Editor of the Glasgow Herald, 1885-1886. Joined staff Pioneer, Allahabad, North-Western Provinces, India, 1886, as Assistant Editor, and remained as Assistant Editor, Acting Editor, and Chief Editor until 1902. President of the Cape Colony Society of Journalists.
Chairman of South African Delegation, Imperial Press Conference in England, 1909.
Chief Editor Cape Times, since 1902.
