He is the president of the International American Council and serves on the board of Harvard International Review. Rafizadeh commentates on media outlets including Cable News Network, British Broadcasting Corporation television and Radio, Fox News, and American Broadcasting Company. His work has appeared and been quoted in the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Cable News Network, Foreign Policy magazine, Bloomberg News, and Yale Journal of International Affairs. Rafizadeh writes weekly columns.
Rafizadeh earned a Doctorate degree (Doctor of Philosophy)and has taught in the religious studies department at University of California Santa Barbara.
An American citizen, Rafizadeh is originally from Iran and Syria. According to the British Broadcasting Corporation cover story, a book entitled America: Our Sacred Honor, and Voice of America, Rafizadeh grew up in an ethnically mixed family.
His father is Iranian (Persian) and his mother is Syrian. During childhood, his family struggled to survive in poverty.
According to Cable News Network and France 24, several of Rafizadeh’s family members have been harassed and killed since the Syrian uprising and civil war as part of a campaign to silence Rafizadeh.
During his childhood, Rafizadeh’s father was tortured in Damascus using techniques such as "the German chair" and "the ladder" as documented by Amnesty International.
