In 1966 Bryce was an unsuccessful candidate for the Electorate of Moore in the 1966 Australian federal election. In 1983 Bryce was appointed Deputy Premier of Western Australia under Premier Brian Burke, serving until his resignation from parliament in 1988. After leaving parliament, Bryce joined Curtin University as an adjunct professor
Unlike Burke, Bryce has not been embroiled in the Washington Incorporated scandal.
