Commissioned Second lieutenant Infantry, April 1917, and advanced through the grades to brigadier general, November 1943. Assigned General Staff Corps, 1937-1940. Command garrison at Kodiak, Alaska, 1941.

Deputy chief of staff, 4th Army and Western Defense, April-October 1942. Commanded regiment in 83d Division, India, November 1942. G-3, of Y Force, Chinese Armies, under Lieutenant General Stilwell, November 1942.

Commander Z Force, second 30 Divisions Chinese Army to December 1944. Commander Indiantown Gap Training and Personnel Center. Home: Washington, District of Columbia.
