Schaffer attended Hampton High School in Allison Park, Pennsylvania where she graduated as the valedictorian of her class and was a member of the National Honor Society.

She holds the record for the most career goals at Hampton at 70. She was a three-time All-State honoree and three-time All-Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League. In 2007 and 2008, she was named to the Pittsburgh Tribune Review All-Area Team and was a Regional All-American.
She was also a two-time Pittsburgh Post Gazette.
College of William and Mary Schaffer attended College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia majoring in pre-medical. She finished her collegiate career with 41 career goals and 96 career points, ranking sixth and seventh, respectively, all-time in the school"s history.
Club = Seattle Reign Football Club On January 18, 2013, Schaffer was selected in the second round (15th overall pick) of the NWSL Draft by Seattle Reign Football Club.
