Education
Studied at Saint Ignatius’ College, Galway, by the Jesuits. Read philosophy and theology at All Hallows’ College, Dublin. And higher philosophy and theology at the Catholic Institute or University, Paris.
Graduated there Bachelor of Divinity in 1879.
His teachers included Duchesne, Martin, Bayonne, and Yoven. Took the Chair of Civil History at All Hallows’ College immediately after hi9 elevation to the priesthood, 1879.
Proceeded to Australia on a commission from the College, 1885. Doctor of Divinity.
