Mandy El-Sayegh was born in 1985, in Selangor, Malaysia.
Mandy received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mixed Media Fine Art from the University of Westminster in 2007. She continued her education at the Royal College of Art in London, graduating with a Master of Arts degree in Painting in 2009.
El-Sayegh explores the materiality and language through various experimental processes. She approaches vast theoretical concerns, related to science, medicine, the human body and the political issues of present time through fragmented images and objects, breaking down her questions into smaller material fragments — pieces of newspapers, parts of photographs, or portions of found objects.
During her artistic career, Mandy took part in many solo and group exhibitions, including Mash Experience, Oxford Street, London (2007), RCA Painting Degree Show, Royal College of Art, London (2010), Taking Part, Galeria Nicodim, Bucharest (2016), Sharjah Biennial 13: Tamawuj (2017) and others. On April 12, 2019, her solo exhibition "Cite Your Sources" opened at Chisenhale Gallery in London.
Currently, she lives and works in London.
El-Sayegh describes her practice as observational and exploratory. She compares her work, in its focus on processes and seemingly arbitrary emergence of new phenomena, to political and cultural structures, that develop in similar ways.
Quotations: "My practice is preoccupied with part-whole relations and with "procedural thinking", that allows for observable growth and decay."
