He initially studied painting at art school but then decided to take up drama.
He initially worked on theatre productions, including Hair which took him to Spain, but he then appeared on screen in television productions and several movies. Unfortunately, Marcelino died at home at the young age of 28 on November 21, 1986 from cancer. The reason he is remembered here is for his well loved character “Rembrandt” in The Warriors.
There are two scenes that supports this.
One scene is where Cleon ( Dorsey Wright ) asked him if he had the can of spray paint, after Rembrandt shows him the paint, Cleon tells him to mark everything in site so people will know the Warriors were there. The second scene is where Swan ( Michael Beck ) tells him to " mark the spot " when they leave the graveyard.
To this day, Marcelino has many fans across the world who were touched by his character in the movie. Friends, family and fans of The Warriors never did, never had, and never will forget him.
Sánchez began acting in the late 1970s.
His first mass media role was in The Warriors (1979), playing Rembrandt, a young, naive gang member with a flair for spray painting. Because of his youthful appearance, he was able to play teenage roles when he was in his 20s. He played Ricardo on The Bloodhound Gang mystery vignettes featured on the 1980s children"s educational television show 3-2-1 Contact.
He appeared in roles on CHiPs and Hill Street Blues as well as the feature film 48 Hrs.
Sánchez died of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome-related cancer in his Hollywood home on November 21, 1986 at age 28.
Rembrandt is one of the nine members of the gang who uses a can of spray paint.
