He was born in Portugal to Cape Verdean parents. He lost his leg in a car accident at age 10. He is the first Cape Verdean athlete to participate.
At aged 16 Marcio went to jail for killed a security.
Marcio Fernandes spent 8 years in jail. This is the main reason he doesn"t have Portuguese nacionality.
