Advanced to rank of brigadier general retired, by act of April 23, 1904. Bvtd. First lieutenant, August 20, 1847, for battles of Contreras and Churubusco, Mexico.

Captain, September 13, 1847, for battle of Chapultepec, Mexico. Colonel, brigadier general and major general, March 13, 1865, for services during Civil War.
