He attended to Bartłomiej Nowodworski High School and got his high-school certificate in 1977. In 1983 he graduated from the Medical Academy in KrakóWest He attended a three-months intership at Harvard University in 1988.
In 1993 he obtained his Doctor of Philosophy at the Jagiellonian University and began work as an assistant professor at the Institute of Pharmacology of Polish Academy of Sciences.
In the same year he began work at the Pediatrics Institute in KrakóWest Since 1995 he has been working also at the Jagiellonian University Medical College, running research mostly in the fields of genetics and molecular biology. In 2007 he received the title of professor of medical sciences.
Sanak published (as an author or co-author) more than 130 original research articles in scientific journals.
In 1999 the Minister of Health and Welfare of Poland awarded him for individual achievemtns in the field of molecular biology.
