Margaret Green Draper was born in 1750. Margaret may have been Richard Draper’s cousin and the grand-daughter of Bartholomew Green, another publisher.
On the death of her husband, June 5, 1774 Margaret continued to publish The Massachusetts Gazette and Weekly News-Letter with her late husband’s partner, John Boyle, but they separated before the beginning of the Revolution. She was strongly Loyalist and continued her husband’s journalistic policy.
After managing the paper alone for several months she formed a partnership with John Howe, and together they published it until Boston was evacuated by the British when it was cations Colonial Society of Massachusetts.
Margaret Draper left with the British, going first to Halifax and thence to England, where she lived until her death in London.
Margaret was the wife of Richard Draper, Boston publisher and printer, whom she married on May 30, 1750.
