Margaret Murphy was born on April 14, 1959, in Liverpool, Lancashire, United Kingdom. She is a daughter William Henry and Margaret Mary (Coughlin) Wright.
Margaret Murphy studied at the University of Liverpool where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Biology. Later she studied at the University of Chester where she received an Advanced Diploma in Special Needs Education in 1996. She also studied at Liverpool John Moores University and received a Master of Arts with Distinction in Writing in 1999.
Margaret Murphy started her career as a biology teacher at St Anselm's College in 1981. She held this post until 1986 and became a second in the biology department at Walton Comprehensive School. In 1987, Murphy took up a post of the head of a dyslexia unit at Mostyn House School. She held this post until 1998 and since that year she worked as a freelance writer.
Margaret Murphy published her first book Goodnight, My Angel, in 1997. She also wrote such books as Caging the Tiger, Past Reason and Weaving Shadows. In 2013, she published a book under the pseudonym of AD Garrett called Everyone Lies. She still writes under this pseudonym and has published two more books. She writes her book together with forensic scientists Professor Dave Barclay and Helen Pepper. Murphy also worked as a lecturer and tutor at the Royal Literary Fund where she worked with undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as a staff member on improving writing skills.
Margaret Murphy is an English writer and educator who is famous for her psychological thrillers. Her most famous books are Darkness Falls and Weaving Shadows.
In 2012, Margaret Murphy received the CWA Short Story Award. Her book Goodnight, My Angel was shortlisted for the First Blood Award. She is also is a contributor to both BBC Radio Merseyside's Drive Time and Radio 4's The Message. Murphy is the founder of "Murder Squad" – a touring group of crime writers.
