This book looks at the psychological issues faced by hospitalized burn and trauma patients and suggests typical reactions, useful interventions and treatment approaches for patients. The book commences with a chapter on pain management and outlines protocols for use of pain medication for the acutely injured and recovering burn and trauma patient. With liberal case examples, the book explores Emergency Room emotional care, organic mental syndrome, psychopharmacology for the burn and trauma patient, alcohol and substance abuse, amputation and replantation and the impact of AIDS in burn and trauma care.
