Neste romance, as histórias da família Cavalcanti de Albuquerque e Correa de Araújo, radicada no agreste pernambucano, são transformadas em desafio literário temperado pelo fascínio dos velhos mistérios. O enredo se inicia quando a autora é informada da existência de um livro de família, provavelmente o original das memórias de dona Isabel Cavalcanti. O documento teria se extraviado nos confins do tempo e das terras agrestes. A busca obstinada por seu objeto perdido leva a ficcionista a mergulhar na história de seus ancestrais, que viveram entre a metade do século XIX e a Segunda Guerra Mundial. Talvez seja o próprio tempo o maior personagem desta obra em que a autora torna-se objeto das ruminações da narradora.

Cristina de Albuquerque graduated in Medicine at the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE) and attended graduate in Psychiatry at Michigan State University in the United States.
Career
She was a university professor in the Department of Neuropsychiatry of UFPE and president of the Archaeological, History and Geography Institute of Pernambuco.

In 2012, held the lecture "Matias, o magro" in the auditorium of the Museum of Pernambuco State, under the auspices of the Association of Friends of Museum, trying on the life and achievements of Count of Alegrete Matias de Albuquerque, a Portuguese nobleman who was governor of the Captaincy of Pernambuco and one of the Governors-General of Brazil.
