Maruja is an autodidact. From her very birth she was like a sponge and was absorbing everything. She was born in a poor family in the period when francoism and religion propagated their slogans at schools. Uncle Amadeo taught her to read at home. Maruja read her first book at the age of 10 (which was presented by uncle Amadeo). It was Oliver Twist by Dickens. Since that time she didn’t stop reading mostly clandestine (backstreet) books.
As for her further education occasionally she attended different academies in her district, usually very dirty, where repressed professors illuminated her life for a short period of time
Apart from books, there was another teacher in her life. The small writer was really attracted by the cinema. It helped her to endure the poverty and first of all made her dream. Over the years Maruja polished her taste and started to write about the cinema.
