She was educated as a school teacher in 1975 and worked as a teacher for some years, but in recent years she has worked as a writer full-time. She has also been working with producing broadcasts for the Faroese radio, Kringvarp Føroya.

She was the president for the Association of Writers of the Faroe Islands from 1980 to 1981, she was the first woman to possess this post. She was the first women who wrote an autobiography in Faroese, when she published Úti á leysum oyggjum (Out on loose islands) in 1997.
