Mary Ellen Mark is a photojournalist. Her subject is people, those lost on the unexplored fringes of life: the dying inside Mother Theresa's hospices, prostitutes in Bombay, autistic children, patients on a mental ward. Often she literally lives among her subjects in order to be granted access to their lives. With her husband, Martin Bell, she created the documentary film "Streetwise" about homeless teenagers in Seattle. The film was nominated for an Academy Award. This is a collection of her photographs.
