An attorney from Beavercreek, Ohio, Reid initially ran for the Ohio House of Representatives in 1992, seeking to replace Bob Doyle a fellow Republican who was facing bankruptcy. She was seated on January 3, 1993, and would be reelected in 1994 and 1996. As a result, she faced a primary challenge from Steve Austria, a financial planner with no previous elected experience.
Following her defeat, Reid returned to the private sector.
In 2000, there was speculation that she could possibly run for the Ohio Senate, but she did not. By 2002, Reid had made a political comeback to serve as Greene County Commissioner, winning a crowded Republican primary to take the seat in 2003.
