Marius Mariusovich Petypa was a Russian actor and entrepreneur.
Background
Marius Mariusovich Petypa was born in a family of a famous dancer and a choreographer on 1850. The relationships between the parents did not grow into a family, and they very soon broke up. However, the father, who had another 9 children, did not give up any of them and helped everyone to prepare for artistic activities and to go on stage. Marius Mariusovich, who received his name in honor of his father, was his firstborn eldest child.
Education
Graduated from St. Petersburg Commercial School in 1871.
Career
He played in St. Petersburg and Moscow, but in spite of this fact spent most of his life in the provinces, enacting roles of heroic lovers, fops.
The permanent repertoire of Petipa incudes: Figaro in "The Marriage of Figaro" by Pierre-Augustin Beaumarchais, Don Juan, Tartuffe in "Tartuffe" plays of Moliere, Cyrano de Bergerac in the "Cyrano de Bergerac" play of Edmond Rostand.
He also performed some characteristic roles, like: von Kalb ("Deceit and Love" by Friedrich Schiller), Dulchin ("The Last Victim" by Alexander Ostrovsky), Georges Dorsey ("Tutor" by Viktor Dyachenko) and others.
Petipa repeatedly acted in Voronezh (1873, 1875 and other years; several years - in the V. I. Nikulin's enterprise in the 1910s). In 1875, Petipa brought a troupe that showed Voronezh residents a serious repertoire ("Hamlet", "Othello", William Shakespeare's "Venetian Merchant", Nikolai Gogol's "Revizor", Victor Dyachenko's "Tutor"); the orchestra was led by V.A. Mikhalek, the conductor of the Alexandrinsky Theater (St. Petersburg).
