"Leadership for all the Mountains You Climb is designed for all who wish to practice and exhibit real leadership in all aspects of their lives- family, school, career, volunteer and civic organizations. The philosophy is based upon the principles of Servant Leadership defined by Robert Greenleaf and Principle Centered Leadership by Dr. Steven Covey. I cover all relevant leadership theories and attempt to align the many theories and styles of leadership into a coherent whole. I advance the argument that leadership, real leadership, not management or power wielding, consists of four aspects: philial love for those you propose to lead, a compelling vision, a source of power, and the management skills to keep the organization in a good position to overcome challenges and take advantage of opportunities. The book is scholarly in nature in that I have provided all my sources, however it is intended to be readable and accessible to teenagers and adults. I have also included help for adults hoping to mentor and teach the next generation of leaders. Leadership for all the Mountains You Climb, is a very serviceable book for a high school or undergraduate survey course on leadership or a very good primer for anyone looking to explore true, lasting, uplifting leadership."

Mark Altman is a speaker and consultant on leadership and management issues and was the first to attempt to establish a link between philial love and leadership, a major update of leadership theory, as he outlined in his first book, Leadership Foreign All the Mountains You Climb: While Loving the View.
Education
Mark Altman was born in Cut and Shoot, Texas. Mark Altman attended Conroe High School, then after a short stint at Texas Christian University Altman enlisted into the United States Army as an infantry soldier. He then earned a British Association for the Advancement of Science at Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches, Texas and received a commission as a Second Lieutenant. He came back to SFA as an Reserve Officers Training Corps Instructor where he earned a Master of Interdisciplinary Degree, and is engaged in Doctor of Philosophy work in Leadership Studies at Gonzaga University.
Career
His revolutionary views were influenced by Robert Greenleaf’s work on Servant Leadership and Stephen R. Covey’s work Principle Centered Leadership. Education Adventure Altman is still involved in all sorts of High Adventure activities like Mountain Climbing, White Water Rafting, Rock Climbing, Spelunking, and also is a Rescue Level Scuba Diver. Experience Altman has been interviewed internationally on television, radio, and in print for leadership and family issues and has been seen on several episodes of Friday Night Lights.
Altman also writes a weekly, family focused, newspaper column Family Matters”, published in seven newspapers in four states, read by over a million people nationwide.
His infectious attitude and ability to captivate an audience makes him well liked as a speaker. Many testimonials about his performance mention that his dynamic and engaging personality allows him to carry his message in an effective and interesting manner.
Altman"s leadership experience include a 20-year service record in the United States Army where he gained the rank of Major, and also attended Armored Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, Airborne and Air Assault Schools, and various other leadership schools. Occupations Altman"s occupations include: Adventurer Army Officer Author Educator Columnist Speaker Mark Altman"s philosophy on leadership is based on the work of Robert Greenleaf, Steven Covey, and a number of others in the Servant Leadership Model.
He is a pioneer in studying the connection between Philial Love and Servant Leadership.

Achievements

In addition to numerous Army awards, Altman was awarded the National Certificate of Merit, by the Boy Scouts of America in 1978 for saving a girl from drowning. He later received the Eagle Scout award in 1983. In 1996, he was awarded an Army Commendation Medal for saving the life of a young man with a severe neck injury, floating face down in Lake Conroe.
