Mark Bergin was born on April 4, 1961, in Hastings, England. He is a son of Willy and Audrey Bergin.
Mark Bergin attended Bexhill College from 1976 to 1978. After that, he studied at Eastbourne College of Art and earned a diploma in 1983.
Mark Bergin started to work as an illustrator in 1983. Bergin creates long-lost worlds for factual history books for elementary-age readers. Some of the first titles he illustrated belonged to the “How They Lived” series in the late 1980s. These series include such books as A Plains Indian Warrior, An Inca Farmer, and A Colonial American Merchant. Bergin’s illustrations help provide further details to the text about food, housing, and dress.
Bergin’s skills as an illustrator have broadened to include a series on architectural styles throughout history. These include Fiona Macdonald’s A Medieval Castle, published in 1990 and A Greek Temple published in 1992. Bergin has also created images for Morley’s An Egyptian Pyramid (1991), a work aimed at readers in grades four through six. Other cultures and eras into which Bergin has delved include ancient Britain, Viking society, and medieval Europe’s age of exploration. Two titles that belong in this last category were also authored by Fiona Macdonald: Marco Polo: A Journey through China and Magellan: A Voyage around the World, both of which were published in the United States in 1998.
Mark Bergin also wrote several books that contain richly illustrated and detailed drawing guide. This "How to Draw" series include such books as How To Draw Perspective, How to Draw Prehistoric and Ice Age Animals, How to Draw Extreme Perspective and many others.

1998Quotations: "I like to illustrate things so the viewer can get the most information from looking at the images. Hopefully, they will interest and entertain at the same time. For historical references and artifacts on recreation work, I use museums and consultants. I also try and get a new angle on the subjects when I can, i.e., eye levels or three-dimensional perspectives".
Mark Bergin is a member of the Chartered Society of Designers.
Mark Bergin married on September 2, 1989. His wife's name is Gillian and they have three children.
