Career
He was first elected in the 2010 municipal election. He did not run for re-election to a second term in the 2014 election. He instead ran in the 2015 federal election and was elected as the Liberal Member of Parliament for Kingston and the Islands, replacing first-term Liberal Member of Parliament Ted Hsu, who chose not to seek re-election.
Gerretsen is a graduate of Queen"s University and Saint Lawrence College.
First elected to Kingston City Council in 2006, for a four-year term, he is the son of Kingston"s former mayor and former Master in Public Policy, John Gerretsen.
