Career
He holds a Royal Society Wolfson Research Merit Award as well as a Roger Needham Award. He was the recipient of the 2012 Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Internet Award "Foreign contributions to Internet multicast, telephony, congestion control and the shaping of open Internet standards and open-source systems in all these areas."
While at the International Computer Science Institute (ICSI), he co-founded the American Telephone & Telegraph Company Center for Internet Research, as well as the XORP open-source router project (2000). He is the (co-)author of 22 RFCs, including the Session Initiation Protocol and a series of other network protocols.
