Education
Born and raised in the Con Mine area of Yellowknife to a miner father, Heyck studied history and Canadian studies at McGill University, then returned to Yellowknife and volunteered as treasurer and vice-president for Folk on the Rocks (2000-2003) and serving on the Union of Northern Workers executive from 2002 to 2005 and website and multimedia coordinator at the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre.
