He is currently playing with the Orlando Solar Bears in the ECHL.
Louis played five seasons (2003 – 2008) of major junior hockey in the Western Hockey League (WHL), scoring 10 goals and 40 assists for 50 points, while earning 379 penalty minutes, in 303 WHL games played. On April 30, 2012, the Phoenix Coyotes of the National Hockey League signed Louis to an entry-level contract, and on July 22, 2013 the Coyotes re-signed Louis for another two years. In the final year of his contract with the Coyotes, and yet to make his debut, Louis was traded to the New York Islanders in exchange for goaltender David Leggio on March 2, 2015.
He was assigned to their minor league affiliate, the AHL"s Bridgeport Sound Tigers.
As a free agent from the Islanders, Louis failed to garner an National Hockey League/AHL contract offer and was subsequently signed to a one-year deal with the Idaho Steelheads of the ECHL on October 1, 2015. At the beginning of the 2015-2016 season, Louis was traded before playing with the Steelheads to the Orlando Solar Bears on October 14, 2015.
