Mark Kropyvnytskyi was born on May 10, 1840 in Kropyvnytskoye village, Kirovograd region, Ukraine, in a family of nobleman Luka Ivanovich Kropyvnytskyi and Kapitolina Ivanovna (née Dubrovinska).

Mark Kropyvnytskyi was born on May 10, 1840 in Kropyvnytskoye village, Kirovograd region, Ukraine, in a family of nobleman Luka Ivanovich Kropyvnytskyi and Kapitolina Ivanovna (née Dubrovinska).
In 1856, Kropyvnytskyi graduated from Bobrinets College. Then he graduated Kyiv Gymnasium. In 1862 Marko Kropyvnytskyi attended classes at the Law Faculty of Kyiv University.
Until the end of 1881, Mark Kropyvnytskyi performed in Russian provincial theatres. In 1882 he organized the first Ukrainian professional troupe in Elisavetgrad (present Kropyvnytskyi), which included Maria Zankovetska and Mykola Sadovsky. Since 1883 Panas Saksahansky, MariaSadovskaya-Barilotti, Ivan Karpenko-Karyi joined the troupe as well. They performed plays written by Taras Shevchenko, Marko Kropyvnytskyi, Mykhailo Starytsky, Ivan Karpenko-Karyi. They toured St. Petersburg, Moscow, many provincial towns. In 1884 the Ukrainian troupe (director – M. Starytsky, artistic administrator – M. Kropyvnytskyi) performed in Voronezh. Local journalists wrote a lot about Kropyvnytskyi’s acting talent. In 1894 he performed in Voronezh with the troupe of V. Zakharenko. In June 1909, he acted in Voronezh again. There he was seen as the king of the Ukrainian stage by the audience.
It is not known whether Mark Kropyvnytskyi was married or not. He had two daughters, Alexandra and Olga, and a grandson, Ihor.
