Born in Saint Louis, Missouri, Dorrel has lived in Cary since 1989. A former teacher and government relations executive, Dorrel served on the Cary Town Council from 1999 through 2007, representing Cary"s District Doctorate, where her prominent role has placed her among the most important figures of the late 20th century Cary Town Council. Dorrel is married and has one stepson.
Dorrel is a past president of the Republican Women of Cary.
