Career
She is a Distinguished Professor in the Departments of Biological Sciences and Biomedical Sciences at State University of New York at Albany and the Ribonucleic acid Institute. She received her Doctor of Philosophy from the University of California, Irvine in 1972 and did postdoctoral research at the Hebrew University, Jerusalem. She was involved in the discovery of self-splicing introns in bacteriophage deoxyribonucleic acid, and continues to do research in the area.
