Background
Marshall Browne was born on November 27, 1935, in Melbourne, Australia. He was a son of Leigh Browne, a banker, and Madeline (Marshall) Browne.
Marshall Browne’s family has lived in Australia for six generations. His ancestor, an Irish-Persian merchant from Calcutta (present-day Kolkata), arrived in Sydney, Australia, in 1809, and bought grazing land near Cabramatta. He was granted other land by then-governor Macquarie and became a merchant and grazier, as well as one of the founders of Australia’s first bank, the Bank of New South Wales.
