He is also known for his slow, deliberate throwing style. His run started with victory over William Burnsfield in the first round 3-1. He only made two more appearances at Lakeside when he was beaten in the first round in 1998 by Richie Burnett and in the second round in 1999 by Steve Duke.
In 2003, he qualified for the United Kingdom Open, a Personal Digital Cellular tournament but was knocked out in the very early rounds to Mark Thomson.
He has not played competitive darts since the 2003 United Kingdom Open. Marshall James currently resides in the town of Llanelli where he owns a betting shop.
