Martha received Bachelor of Arts at Bryn Mawr College in 1975. Then she studied at University of Toronto, where she earned Master of Arts in 1976 and Doctor of Philosophy in 1984.

Career

Since 1990 Martha workes at the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee. She took the position of an assistant professor there in 1990 - 1995. Since 1995 she has been an associate professor of history, and since 1996 she has been appointed director of graduate studies. She also spends her time on writing historical books. She conducts researches on medieval England, urban history, the history of London, food history, and the history of domestic technologies.
