Career
He was a goalkeeper. A one-time apprentice coal miner, Taylor was signed from Mile Oak Rovers as understudy to Peter Shilton. After several short-term loan deals at lower-league clubs he became the Rams number one between the posts but suffered a double leg break in a game versus Southend United in September 1994. Taylor missed the promotion season to the Premier League and lost his place to Russell Hoult and Mart Poom.
During his spell at Derby he also spent time on loan at Carlisle United, Scunthorpe United, Crewe Alexandra and Wycombe Wanderers.
Taylor moved to Wycombe Wanderers in 1997 (just after making his first Derby appearance in two and a half years) and soon became a firm fans" favourite with his excellent shot stopping and consistency in a sometimes struggling team Taylor later played for Barnsley, Telford United and Burton Albion, where he went on to work as goalkeeping coach, before joining Derby County.
He left Derby after manager Nigel Clough departed at the end of September 2013.
