Sarukhanyan finished the College in Baku, then continued his graduation in the Saint St. Petersburg State Institute of Technology.

As an Hunchakian leader in 1894 he moved to Western Armenia, worked in Tabriz, then in 1895 he became the Hunchakian leader of Van. He joined Dashnak leader Peto and Armenakan Mkrtich Avetisyan to organize the self-defence of Van. Martiros was surrounded by Turkish troops near Garahisar mountain, where he was killed.
Avetis Nazarbekian and Shushanik Kurghinian dedicated poems to his memory.
Politics
Then studied in Geneva, where supported Social-Democrat Hunchakian Party Central Committee.
