Martiros SARYAN, USSR Artist. Landscape painter; Popular Artist of Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic since 1926; full member, USSR Academy, of Arts, since 1947 and Armenian Academy, of Arts, since 1956; board member, USSR Union of Artists. French Diploma of Honor and prize for his panel at Paris World Fair, 1937; two Order of Lenin; other orders; medals; Stalin Prize, 1941; Lenin Prize, 1961.

1904 graduated Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture.

Career

Joined “Blue Rose” Artists’ Society. 1937 painted main panel for USSR Pavilion at Paris World Fair. 1939 main panel for All-Union Exhibition in Moscow.

1939-1951 Chairman, Armenian Union of Artists. Member, Presidium Council, Soviet-French Friendship Society. Deputy, USSR Supreme Soviet of 1946, 1950 and 1954 convocation.

Deputy, Armenian Supreme Soviet of 1959 convocation.
