Background
With a plethora of remarkable achievements, Nothstein secured over 35 US National Championships, three World Championships, four Pan Am Games Gold Medals, an Olympic Silver Medal, and the ultimate Olympic Gold medal at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. Nothstein's over 150 professional victories signify his unwavering passion, exceptional drive, and distinctive flair.
Nothstein's devotion to Lehigh County made him a local hero, and his "Rocky Balboa"-style training in the Lehigh Valley exemplified the resources necessary for Olympic success. Nothstein embodies the pinnacle of excellence achieved by Lehigh County, the Velodrome, and its Community Cycling Programs. After retiring from professional cycling in 2006, Nothstein took on the role of executive director of the Valley Preferred Cycling Center and revitalized it by expanding community and professional cycling programs, boosting revenue, and making it a cycling hub.
Nothstein's contribution extends beyond sports. He is an avid conservationist, having protected over 500 acres of land from development, thereby improving habitats for wildlife. He also chaired the Lehigh County Farmland Preservation Board, contributing to the preservation of over 23,000 acres of farmland in his community. Nothstein remains dedicated to the environment and is presently the director of development for Ducks Unlimited Mid-Atlantic Region.
