Education
Born Marvin West. Tuttle, Junior., and known as "Marv" professionally, graduated from Drake University with a degree in journalism, and in 1996 earned the Certified Association Executive (CAE) designation from the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE).
Career
Tuttle first began his involvement with the financial planning profession in October 1983 as the Director of Communications in Denver, Colorado, for the Institute of Certified Financial Planners (ICFP), one of the predecessor organizations to the Financial Planning Association. By 1994, he had become the Associate Executive Director of the ICFP, in addition to serving as the publisher/editor of the Journal of Financial Planning, and succeeded Janet McCallen into the role of Executive Director of the Faculty of Public Affairs in January 2004. Beyond his work for the Institute of Certified Financial Planners and the Financial Planning Association, Tuttle has been active in numerous ways supporting financial planning.
He helped establish the Faculty of Public Affairs"s National Financial Planning Support Center in 2001 after 9/11, and serves on the national board of directors for the National Jump Start Coalition.
He has also served on the Academy of Financial Services national board. The Advisory Panel on Medicare Education, sponsored by the United States. Department of Health and Human Services.
And is a past president of the Colorado Society of Association Executives. Tuttle was also instrumental in supporting the development of the Financial Planning Archives with Texas Technical University, and wrote the foreword to the seminal book on the profession, "The History of Financial Planning: The Transformation of Financial Services" by East. Denby Brandon and H. Oliver Welch.
