In this text students and teachers should anticipate a unique treatment of such basic subjects as love, sex, marriage, and family. Traditionally, these topics are treated as two distinctive themes. One is family life education, in which the practical problems of understanding oneself and others, finding a mate, marrying, working to establish and maintain a home, building a family, and finding fulfillment in family life are stressed. The second theme is family theory and research which examines family life for its intrinsic worth, its professional applications, and its disciplinary lessons.
