She performs under the name Ellis, having found early on that her last name is frequently mispronounced. Her music is generally described as folk/indie acoustic. She tours often around the United States generally playing small venues and folk festivals, and was a featured performer on the radio variety show Prairie Home Companion on June 1, 2013 and December 26, 2015.
