Career
She received a bachelor"s degree in government from Harvard University and a Master’s Degree in international affairs from Johns Hopkins University. From 1999 to 2002, she worked as a fixed income research and capital markets specialist at Goldman Sachs, an investment bank in London and New York City. She joined The Wall Street Journal Asia in Hong Kong in 2004 as writer of the Money & Investing section’s Heard in Asia column.
Later, she served as an Asia-wide finance correspondent.
From 2005 to 2010, she was editorial page editor of The Wall Street Journal Asia. She has appeared on Microsoft and National Broadcasting Company on Morning Joe, and Consumer News and Business Channel, the John Batchelor Show, and the Bill Bennett Show, among others
She has written editorials critical of Elizabeth Warren. She has also written for the defunct Far Eastern Economic Review, The Australian, and The Spectator Australia.
She was a Claremont Institute Lincoln Fellow and a Stanford University Hoover Institution Edwards Media Fellow.
She has spoken at the Milken Institute and National Press Club of Australia. Personal life
She is a virtuosa player of the marimba.
Politics
She writes predominantly on the human rights and politics of Asia, in addition to American economic issues. She has interviewed the Dalai Lama, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, Richard Branson and United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.
