In Washington, 1885, with others, secured opening of night schools for colored people, also organized and was president society for helping the newsboys. Vice president 1881-1886, president, since 1886, Woman’s Board of Home Missions of Presbyterian Church (representing over half million Presbyterian women).
Also president other religious and benevolent organizations.
Led uprising of women which prevented Brigham H. Roberts (of Utah) from taking seat in 56th Congress. Platform speaker and writer on reforms.
