At the age of 14 was appointed page to Naganori Asano with a fief of 150 koku. Later when his master was ordered to commit hara-kiri for his misconduct in Edo Castle, he and another retainer named Takafusa Kataoka cut their hair and followed the hearse of their master. They then formed a secret body and avenged the death of their master, after which he too committed suicide. Was one of the 47 Ako Gishi (loyal retainers of Ako).
Showed remarkable intelligence when young and even learned to beat the drum and excelled in Sarugaku (Kind of Noh play).
