Masakane Inoue was born in Edo (now Tokyo).
Masakane Inoue became a aisciple of Shirakawa and mastered Shintoism, practised stoic discipline and advocated way of reaching divine heights by regulating breathing (1834). The Shogun considered his teachings injurious to orthodox Shintoism and exiled him (1843) to Miyakejima Island, south of Edo, where he died.
