Masamichi Takatsukasa

Background

Takatsukasa Masamichi was born on August 22, 1789 Kyoto, Japan. He was the son of Masateru.

Career

Masamichi Takatsukasa became a minister and adviser to the Emperor (1820). Became prime minister (1842) and with the accession of Emperor Kiimei was elevated to the rank of a high councilor.

Due to his marriage with the elder sister of Nariaki Tokugawa, Lord of Mito, he played an important role in mediating between the Imperial Court and the Shogunate. For his part in the Ansei-no Taigoku uprising of 1857 he was placed under house arrest, where he died.

Takatsukasa Masahiro (鷹司 政熙) son of regent Sukehira, was a Kugyō or Japanese court noble of the Edo period (1603-1868). He held a regent position kampaku from 1795-1814. Masahiro's son, Masamichi, was born to a daughter of the eleventh head of Tokushima Domain, Hachisuka Shigeyoshi.
