Career
He was an instrumental in the founding of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party. The post of Prime Minister of Bangladesh was abolished 15 August 1975 as a consequence of the assassination of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman of that year, terminating the Prime Ministership of Muhammad Mansur Ali. After the rise to power of Ziaur Rahman, who became the 7th President of Bangladesh on 21 April 1977, a ministerial system was reestablished, and Mashiur Rahman served as the Chief Minister beginning in June 1978.
